The University of New Haven has announced a new partnership with , becoming a preferred provider of school finance and operations courses. These courses are designed for individuals pursuing roles as School Business Officials or Certified Administrators of School Finance and Operations, as well as members of the broader education community who want to deepen their knowledge of school business operations.
Each module examines a different part of public-school administration, including human resources and educational budgeting; facilities, transportation, and ancillary services; operations; and financial management. Each course, which is offered completely online over a period of seven weeks, meets the education eligibility requirements for the school finance and operations (SFO) certification exam and recertification.
“Overseeing business and operations of K-12 schools is an incredibly important responsibility,” says Christy Smith, Ph.D., director of the University’s Master of Public Administration, who has extensive knowledge working in the public sector, including serving as a policy and budget analyst in the executive office of former Florida Governor Jeb Bush.
“It is essential that those leading the business and operations side of public schools have the most updated information and training in order to fully understand the challenges and opportunities of running complex business operations,” continued Dr. Smith. “Our collaboration with ASBO International will ensure that these professionals acquire the specialized skills that lead to career advancement and that help engender confidence in those entrusted with leading our public schools.”
“At ASBO International, we are focused on expanding high-quality, accessible professional learning opportunities for school business officials at every stage of their careers,” said James M. Rowan, CAE, SFO, executive director of ASBO International. “This collaboration with the University of New Haven strengthens that commitment by providing flexible, relevant pathways that support both certification and ongoing professional growth.”
Program instructors have extensive experience in both municipal finance and educational finance and operations. Credits may be applied to the University’s fully online MPA program, if certain enrollment conditions are met.
